Max Quick Start Suggestions
If you want to quickly get started in the world of mobile robotics here is one recommended configuration and the components needed. This mobile robot system includes sonar units for avoiding obstacles. Simple wheel encoders for measuring the distance your robot has traveled. REX bases include HEDS 5500 encoders if you need more sophisticated speed and distance information from each drive motor. The sonar/encoder drive board provides all the interface and power required for both the wheel encoders and up to three Senscomp Sonar units.

The Max 99 Kit specs: Add a Max 99 to your shopping cart!
Each deck base is 12 inches in diameter (30cm).
The base has dual 12 volt 20in-lb torque drive motors (The Max speed is 18 meters per minute under full load), a gear change can be requested which will double the speed.
The drive wheels are six inches (15 cm) in diameter.
Each caster wheel is three inches (7.5 cm) in diameter.
The base is balanced with two casters.
A motor driver kit is included with the base.
Two free optics are included and can be used for simple pulse encoders.
The maximum recommended payload is 35 lbs. (13.6 kgs.).
This basic robot will roam around a room and easily avoid most obstacles. A single sonar unit will provide adequate coverage for a Max 99. This Max is powered by 8 'D' cell batteries. Dry cell batteries provide a powerful but safer power supply. The dry cell batteries can be replaced by larger rechargeable gel cell batteries once your robot development is completed.
